This is easily corrected by turning the chat volume (top volume dial) on the headset down as low as you can go without losing your content's audio, then adjust audio accordingly with the bottom volume control. A quick Google said others had same issue, and simply taking headset apart, and temporarily jumping a 9V battery to battery contacts would light it off and make it start charging again.
